Advanced SIKS course on Technology-enhanced learning

On April 12 and 13, 2012 the School for Information and Knowledge Systems (SIKS) will organize an Advanced course on Technology-enhanced learning. The two-day event will be given in English and is part of the advanced components stage of the educational program for SIKS PhD-students. Over the past decades, computers and mobile technology have found their way to learning and educational contexts. They are used for a variety of educational processes including course management, assessment, learner support and other purposes. The advanced course will focus on two prominent research directions for technology-enhanced learning: learning networks and mobile learning. Learning networks are put to use to provide peer-support among learners to reduce teacher workload, raise awareness of educational resources, and provide tailored content. The use of mobile technology allows to implement contextualized and ubiquitous learning scenarios that go beyond the artificial division between learning context and application context and allow a seamless learning experience. The course treats the latest developments in these areas and the dos and don?ts for implementation of technology in learning contexts. Although these activities are primarily intended for SIKS-PhD-students, other participants are not excluded. However, their number of places will be restricted and depends on the number of students taking the course. The course is given by experienced lecturers actively involved in the research areas related to the topics of the advanced course. The local organisation is in the hands of Dr. Marco Kalz (OU) and Rory Sie (OU). SCIENTIFIC DIRECTORS: Prof. dr. Paul De Bra (TUE) Prof. dr. Marcus Specht (OU) Prof. dr. Peter Sloep (OU)

4th NIRICT-SIKS International Spring school on Human-Technology Interaction

The spring school will focus on three major perspectives of experience engineering. Psychological, anthropological perspective Creative, design perspective Technological perspective The psychological perspective is concerned with the way humans perceive and experience their environment, and thus forms a basis for knowing how to influence experiences using design and technology. The creative, design perspective is concerned with the creative and artistic process of designing them including for example aesthetics. The technological perspective is concerned with the technologies that are needed to build systems creating experiences as well as opportunities for new types of experiences enabled by recent technology. Registration: More details on program and registration will be made available at the SIKS-site soon.
